Guy L. Mintz, MD
Dr. Guy L. Mintz is the Medical Director of the New York Preventive Cardiology Institute and New York Lipid Institute. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at New York University School of Medicine.
Dr. Mintz has been recognized for his accomplishments by his peers and has been bestowed the honor of Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, and Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is Board Certified in internal medicine, nuclear cardiology and cardiovacular disease. Dr. Mintz has received various honors throughout the years for his research and teaching, including multiple awards for Clinical Teacher of the Year from North Shore University Hospital. His devotion to the prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease is unequaled. He has been involved in National teleconferences, and visiting faculty conferences throughout the country and the world, which have dealt with the prevention of atherosclerotic disease.
Dr. Mintz has dedicated his career to the prevention of cardiovascular disease. He has been using various diagnostic techniques to find patients at risk for cardiac disease and stroke. Dr. Mintz has done research in the area of inflammation. It is now felt that the irritation of the blood vessels can contribute to cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke. Inflammation can be detected from a simple blood test referred to as Cardio-CRP. This analysis taken into account with other risk factors is used to thoroughly evelauate the patient. Various diagnostic techniques include impedance plethysmography, nuclear stress testing, and color echo Doppler evaluation are being used for evealuation of patients.
Some patients are at risk for sudden death. This accounts for over 5 million deaths per year. Dr. Mintz is using T Wave Alternans to evaluate a patients risk for sudden cardiac death.
